Black Cohosh

(Actaea racemosa (formerly Cimicifuga racemosa))

In modern use, black cohosh is often perceived as being a women’s remedy. However, this herb was traditionally valued by both men and women as an antispasmodic herb that is particularly useful for cramping and muscle pain of all types. It was also traditionally used for nerve-related pain, whiplash, and pain related to spinal injuries (Wood, 2009). It appears to have anti-inflammatory properties (Hoffmann, 2003).
